How to store packaging: basic rules

2. Order and cleanliness. Packaging materials must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated, clean room. Regularly clean the warehouse to prevent the accumulation of garbage, dirt, dust.


3. Shelves, pallets, trays. Boxes, paper, tape and other materials should be stored in sections of rack structures or on pallets. The storage surface must be flat. Do not store packaging in a chaotic manner. It is important to arrange unimpeded access to each type of packaging.


4. Shelf life. The service life of each type of packaging is specified by the manufacturer. It is necessary to follow its instructions and not allow the use of expired material.


5. Labeling. Label each package, indicating the type of material, the date of production and receipt at the warehouse, as well as the number of pieces in the pack. This will help you quickly find the right material when needed and optimize stock in the warehouse.


6. Controlled storage. The responsible person must conscientiously perform his duties and ensure the safe storage of packaging containers. It is necessary to strictly observe fire safety regulations. Packages must not be stored in passageways and on evacuation routes. It is important to provide open access to fire hoses, fire extinguishers, other fire-fighting equipment and tools for fighting a fire.


7. Inspection. Periodically inspect the condition of the packaging. Get rid of damaged, dirty or deformed materials. Do not forget to take inventory of the stored supplies.


8. Optimization of space. The warehouse area should be organized as efficiently as possible to increase productivity and reduce the time it takes to find the right packaging. Place containers based on how often they are used: place popular items in easily accessible places, and those that are used less often can be placed on the back shelves or in the upper sections of the racks.
